Preparation for Adulthood students wrapped up the first term of the academic year with a culinary adventure. This term, students have been able to take their lessons outside in the garden, enabling them to engage in hands-on activities, and enjoy the fresh air.
Recently, nine A Level Chemistry students, Jiang, Amir, Zhanpeng, Aizah, Oleks, Sadia, Ashaan, Rafin and Ayoyinka won 3 silver awards and 6 copper awards after competing in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge which aims to stretch and challenge students interested in chemistry.
Foundation learning students took part in a class with a difference. Friends of the Earth visited NewVIc to run workshops in environmental campaigning and social action. Over 40 students benefited from the sessions delivered by Jamien Steward, a Friends of the Earth Youth Campaign Coach.

Aleeza is a final year student studying A Levels in Psychology, English Literature and Religious Studies. She has taken advantage of the many opportunities available to students at NewVIc.
Aleeza is actively involved in college life. This academic year (2023-24), Aleeza served as the college’s Student Union President and also got involved in the Student Council and Student Ambassador volunteering scheme. She is an avid musician and singer and has featured singing alongside music producer Frenchy. Prior to joining NewVIc, she was at Scoil Chriost Ri school in Ireland. We caught up with Aleeza to find out about her journey so far.
Inspiring stories: “I’ve learnt that college is a more nuanced chapter of life. There’s more freedom, there’s more chances to get involved and bring forward opinions and there’s ample amounts of NewVIc staff you can build a good relationship with that you can go to for advice or for issues you face.”
Camecia is an aspiring actor who recently worked tirelessly to spread life-saving messages about breast cancer amongst young people working with the charity CoppaFeel with four other students. She is currently in her second year of studying A Levels in English Literature, English Language, Psychology and a vocational course in Acting. She was a former Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College student. We caught up with Camecia to find out a little more about her journey so far.
Inspiring stories: “Before I started college I thought I will never get anywhere in life with my disability. Looking back I started to learn that anyone can get to where they want to get to in life, no matter what their disability may be.”
Karolina is an aspiring business entrepreneur who would like to set up her own clothing brand. Living with a disability, she wants to excel in life and show others that they can too. She is currently in her first year of studying Level 2 Business T Level Transition. She was a former Cumberland Community School student. We caught up with Karolina to find out a little more about her journey so far.
Inspiring stories: “I love taking part in sports, and have been doing so since I was a little girl in Greece. I take part in most sporting activities put on by the Sports Academy. If I’m not participating then I am assisting the coaches.”
Nefeli is an aspiring athlete and budding football and netball player with the NewVIc Knights teams. This year, Nefeli was recognised by the Association of Colleges Sport Awards 2023 and awarded Volunteer of the Year. She was nominated for her outstanding work supporting, encouraging and inspiring her peers in a variety of sports. She is currently in her second year of studying Level 3 Level Extended Diploma in Sport - Development Coaching and Fitness. She was a former Cumberland Community School student. We caught up with Nefeli to find out a little more about her journey so far.
Inspiring stories: “As a refugee myself, I know first hand how difficult it is fleeing from a country that went into war. Refugees need support, understanding and opportunities to save them from the horrific situations they had to flee.”
Olha is about to finish studying the Progress to Advanced Programme (PTOA). She fled an arms conflict in the Ukraine and moved to the UK and joined the college on the PTOA last year. We caught up with the tri-lingual student to find out a little more about her journey so far.
Inspiring stories: “My mother finished secondary school, attended higher education, and found employment. My mother has consistently given me advice to be independent and to avoid falling prey to stereotypes.”
Tasnim is a second-year student studying vocational level 3 in Travel and Tourism. As part of her course, Tasnim was recently selected to go on a research trip to Marrakech to study sustainable and specialist tourism in Morocco. She progressed from Jo Richardson Community School and joined the college. We caught up with Tasnim to find out a little more about her journey so far.

Preetham, an aspiring software engineer, has secured a place at University of Westminster to study Software Engineering. He achieved top grades with triple distinction (equivalent to A A A in A Levels) in Vocational Level 3 IT. Preetham is involved in many opportunities available for students at NewVIc. Preetham is part of the Student Union and involved in the Student Council, Campaigns Champion and Student Ambassador volunteering scheme. He was a former Eastlea Community School student. Jadyn is a first-year student studying A Levels in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Alongsde his course, Jadyn is also doing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Jadyn is involved in many opportunities available for students at NewVIc. Jadyn is also the college’s Student Union President and involved in the Student Council and Student Ambassador volunteering scheme. He is also an avid musician and singer hoping to also get his musical career off the ground. Jadyn was home schooled prior to joining the college. Inspiring stories: “My parents are a huge inspiration to me. They both immigrated to the UK as young adults with absolutely nothing. They worked hard, both have PHDs and built an amazing life for not only themselves but also for me and my siblings.”

Curriculum Manager for Creative Media, Art & Design & Performing Arts
Paul Jones is the Curriculum Manager for Creative Media, Art & Design and Performing Arts and teaches on the Level 3 Creative Media courses, specialising in moving image, filmmaking theory and production projects at NewVIc. Head of Performance and Development for NewVIc Cricket Academy
This is Enamul Haque Jr. He is the Head of Performance and Development for the Cricket Academy. Having performed highly in cricket on an international level, Enamul was fortunate to represent Bangladesh at the Cricket World Cup playing against India and many other international games worldwide. He also played for various cricket clubs including London Eagles CC, Roehampton CC and Roding Valley CC before becoming a full-time coach. Safeguarding and Welfare Manager
Wendy McFaull is the Safeguarding and Welfare Manager at the college. She works with youth safety team, youth workers, student finance, mental health and counseling services and the safeguarding and welfare teams. Find out why she loves keeping students safe and supported at NewVIc.

Learning Coach for Digital Innovation and a Teacher of Travel and Tourism
Michael Owusu-Dartey is a Learning Coach for Digital Innovation and a Teacher of Travel and Tourism. Michael is well travelled having travelled to 5 different continents. He brings his travel experience to share in the classroom and makes learning fun and exciting including the use of innovative forms of assessment. Curriculum Manager for Sport and Humanities
Shane Rancic is the curriculum manager of Sport and Humanities and a teacher of sport. Having performed highly in all sports, Shane was fortunate to represent England U15s at an international tournament in Belgium, had many trials at big football clubs and spent time in various academies including Queens Park Rangers, Charlton and Brighton before becoming a full-time teacher. Henna Nazir just completed an internship as a micro social media influencer for Posh Cockney, an award-winning PR, Marketing and Events agency based in London. She is a former A Level student at NewVIc and came from Brampton Manor Academy and studied A Levels in Economics, Finance and Sociology. She is on a gap year doing various internships. Amritpal Gill is the founder and owner of Hayachi Services. Founded in 2017, Hayachi Services is an IT Consultancy which works with organisations of all sizes across the UK. Their wide-variety of clients include leading international law firms, global financial institutions, developers, retro-game stores and more. He is a former A Level student at NewVIc. Amritpal came from Forest Gate Community School and studied A Levels in Archaeology, Classical Civilisation and History.
