This course is equivalent to one A Level and is taken as part of an A Level programme.

If you are interested in caring for people you will find this course challenging and interesting. The qualification will provide you with the knowledge, attitudes and skills that are essential in any career working with people. The course will prepare you to understand how to provide the best possible service and care to people of all ages and with widely differing needs.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    Take part in fund-raising and awareness raising campaigns such as FGM and forced marriage and equality and inclusion.

    Hear from a range of inspirational speakers such as teachers, social workers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, nurses and midwives.

    EXPERT PRACTITIONERS

    The Health and Child Studies team have published research on topics education and child development and have professional experience in a range of industries including lecturing at universities, nursery management and care home management.

    Outside of college, members of the Health and Child Studies team teach yoga, run marathons and take care of allotments.

    The Leisure, Tourism and Sports team are leading the way in pioneering the use of technology in the classroom and have been working with Google to make teaching and assessment more interactive.

    Outside of college, many members of the Leisure, Tourism and Sports team are involved in volunteering and love to travel around the world to learn more about different aspects of tourism.

  • This course can be taken as part of an A Level programme.

    We recommend that students choose three A Levels or a combination of Level 3 Extended Certificates and A Levels. Depending on your GCSE grades and long-term destination, some students may be able to take up to four A Levels.

    If you are planning on progressing to university, the majority of university courses do not require specific subjects. Most universities prefer that you are able to demonstrate skills and competance via the successful completetion of related courses. Therefore we recommend that the most important thing when choosing course combinations is that you choose a range of subjects that your enjoy and excel in.

    We do not recommend that your take two courses that are similar to each other in content.

    If you are planning on studying Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry or other competitive science based courses, most universities require you to take Biology, Chemistry and either Maths, Statistics or Physics.

  • Depending on your other A Level choices, this subject will prepare you for a wide range of degree level courses. Many students progress to study Nursing, Social Care and other health-related subjects at university. You may choose to apply for a job or work experience within the Health and Social Care sector.
