LEVEL 1

This programme is an ideal option if you enjoy hands on learning and want to improve your skills. You may be planning to move on to a Level 2 course but do not expect to achieve at least two 9 - 4 grades at GCSE in relevant subjects. Or you may wish to prepare for employment by boosting your skills. This programme will focus on a mixture of vocational learning, functional skills and personal development.

Applications to the course must be made with the assistance of your careers adviser and school and be supported by an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP).

There are no formal qualifications required
Students should be working at the higher end of Entry Level 3 for Literacy. If you have not reached this level, or if you need support in lessons, the Preparation for Progression course may be a better option for you.

Foundation Learning is a team made up of specialist teachers with years of experience working with and supporting young adults in education. Our Inclusive Learning team will also support you with your individual learning needs. Classes are small and are supported by specialist learning support practitioners who provide group support in lessons and at break. Where necessary they are also able to take care of any personal needs.

Integrated and included

Foundation Learning students are integrated and included within all aspects of college life. We also offer specific clubs and enrichment activities for students with disabilties such as connect club and an ability counts sports programme.

High expectations

We challenge students and have high expectations for students who have never had high expectations from others. We also offer in house internships for students in areas such as customer service, sport leadership and gardening.

We support and nuture the whole person through both tutoring and teaching.

You will have a range of options open to you when you finish the course, including further study on a Level 2 course, providing you have achieved at least a Level 1 qualification in both Maths and English and have an excellent record of attendance and work submission. Students may also progress to apprenticeships and work.
