Historical Association Great Debate hosted at NewVIc
NewVIc students, Mariya Anwar, Elisa Klene-Sanchez and Jack Anglim represented our college in the Historical Association Great Debate which was hosted at our college.
On Wednesday 24th November 3 NewVIc students, Mariya Anwar, Elisa Klene-Sanchez and Jack Anglim represented our college in the Historical Association Great Debate which was hosted at our college. Students delivered 5 minute speeches on the most important changes in their local area during the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II and our students spoke about changes in education and gentrification.
They competed against a number of colleges from across the borough and we are so proud of their achievements; they spoke eloquently and passionately about their chosen topic and received excellent feedback from the judges. For some of our students it was their first time speaking in front of a large audience and we were very impressed with their delivery. Unfortunately only one student (from another local college) could be selected to go through to the finals but it was an excellent experience and a very close contest and we look forward to taking part again next year!
A big thank you to our judges, NewVIc history teacher Alex Cazaly, politics teacher Rob Behan and Simon Sleight, Reader in Urban History, Historical Youth Cultures and Australian History, Co-founding Director of the Children's History Society and Deputy Director of the Menzies Australia Institute at King’s College, London. They asked some really insightful questions to our students and were very thorough in the judging process and feedback.
